Meet Mae. Mae is deaf, a small 7 year old apricot poodle, she has neurological issues but walks/runs just fine. She was
abandoned by her owners, left without food/water and was rescued by
animal services. She was found at the bottom of a drained swimming
pool in south Florida (estimated 2 weeks without food/water proper
shelter). As you can imagine she may have suffered permanent damage
while exposed in that pool in the heat. For 6 years her new owner
cared for her but financial and personal reasons arose which meant the
owner had to surrender her, this time it was different, she was placed
into a nice foster home, never missing a meal. As is sometimes seen in owner surrenders, Mae had a hard time
adjusting to a new home when surrendered to CPR. Her deafness, change
in situation were hard on her. She is a good girl but can be people
protective/aggressive, meaning she can latch on to 1 person in the
home and not really want other people around. Her deafness has it's
own unique aspects and also affects her personality (she is in her own
world!). Has had issues with house training but seems good now, has
had issues with food/water aggressiveness but has settled down in that
area also. She really needs someone with patience and love that will
let her know they care and yet lay down the boundries so she feels
safe. Mae has been in foster care for over 6 months and unfortunately
her foster mom is having pregnancy complications and so we need to
transfer her to another foster home shortly. CPR has seen other dogs have a difficult transition similar to this
but the dogs always overcome the challenge. Time is something shelters
cannot afford the dogs in their care but CPR does. Donations allow us
to rehabilitate a dog and allow it to learn to live within their new
world. |
