Meet Mazie. She is a doll-baby. She came in as an owner surrender and needed some TLC. We found out she has a kidney disease which will shorten her life to 1 - 3 years from now. That is sad because she is only 3.5 years old. She had a standard poodle brother who was adopted quickly. She now lives in a foster home with her new canine siblings, there are 8 of them. She likes to run around the yard, go for walks and shred soft doggie toys. She is on a special diet, supplements and medication, none of which will cure her but will slow the progression of this disease (hopefully). She will have tests every 3 months to monitor her progress and status. She must go potty many times a day as she processes fluids differently than a normal dog. She does not like to be without her human so time away is limited as much as possible. She is great about 'going' in the same spot so cleaning up after her is not such a big chore. She weighs 16 lbs and should weigh 12-14, the walks she gets are not helping that situation. She is fed a proper amount of food/treats and we are not going to worry about that too much. She has the tiniest bark, she sounds like a tiny tiny dog when she barks but she is not so tiny. Most likely, she will stay in foster care until it is her time. So, one of our foster slots will be taken up for an extended time, her tests and medication, of course, cost money. If you want to sponsor or donate in Mazie's name, she would appreciate it and so will her new freinds at Coastal Poodle Rescue. |
