Meet Cocoa Chanel.

This is a sad story, Cocoa Chanel was found when a concerned neighbor called for help when they felt something was wrong 'next door'. Cocoa's owner was found unconscious and it was obvious they had been so for a couple days. The owner passed away a few days later in the hospital. Cocoa was picked-up by Animal Services in the area, taken to a shelter.

Cocoa was loved but not properly cared for, she tested HW negative but could not be given vaccines or preventives due to her condition. She could barely walk, anemic, horrendous dental disease, no fur due to fleas and missing her front leg. Cocoa was in bad shape.

Well CPR was called and began the recovery process for this girl. She was given good food, treated for all the 'little' things and brought to a point she could have vaccines and eventually her dental. She never built up her muscles properly after her leg was removed (we found out there was an accident which her owner had her treated for). This was unfortunate because a missing front leg requires a strong body to support the weight of a standard size poodle. The therapy sessions began to build her strength.

The signs of progress: the tail starts wagging, barking when it is dinner time, walking just a few steps more each day during therapy. YEAH! The dental was a tough one, so much so that it was done in two sessions, over 14 teeth removed. We also find out she has retinal atrophy so her vision is impaired. This explains her shyness and concern around sudden movements (kids). A couple set-backs in her progress but then things progress forward, her hair is growing in now, she even trots a little now and then when out with the other dogs. She seems happy and interacts with people and dogs again as if she is interested in life. She is moving on.

She is stable now and ready to find a new home. CPR and Cocoa's foster dad went to the mat for this girl, at 8 yrs old we felt she deserved a chance at some wonderful years in not only a loving home but one that would properly care for her. Many times owners simple do not know or understand what it takes to care for an animal. Love is certainly a large part of a healthy pet's life but proper medical attention and diet are very important too. CPR tries to educate the public on proper care for their pets, if you can support us in this effort we would appreciate it AND SO WOULD DOGS LIKE COCOA CHANEL.
